Typical application areas

Widely used in: molecular marker-assisted breeding, genomics, systems biology and molecular evolution, transgenic research, and other biochemical research in plant tissue nucleic acid extraction.

To isolate nucleic acids from intact seeds, the seeds are first mechanically disrupted and the nucleic acids are extracted and purified. The usual mechanical breaking methods are slow and prone to cross-contamination and are not suitable for high-throughput seed breakage.

Grinding the seeds in the microplate with Scientz-48 provides a rapid release of large amounts of nucleic acid from the seed cells; the nucleic acid is separated and purified from the homogenate. For example: overnight soaking in water with water, homogenized into a slurry within 3 minutes, source of material for DNA analysis.
